Can dental implant be applied to everyone?

What is implant treatment?

Implant is a product like a screw that is inserted into the jawbone. On top of this screw-like product which is inserted into the jawbone and parietal bone, removable or fixed prostheses are applied, and missing teeth are replaced. They can be inserted easily without feeling any pain. In places which are numbed by an anesthetic injection, the only thing we are looking for is to have sufficient amount of tissue. Implant can be applied to people who have bone formation and necessary tissue underneath the missing tooth. These people can continue their chewing activities without ruining the functional integrity of the teeth.

There are two application techniques for the prostheses that will be replaced on top of the implant. While the patient’s prosthesis is being prepared, either temporary teeth is inserted, or we wait for the place to be covered with gingiva and then replace the prosthesis. In the first one, after the prosthesis is prepared according to the person’s precise impression taken, the temporary teeth are removed, and the prosthesis is fixed. In the other method, after waiting for 2-6 months (according to the location of the teeth), the prosthesis is fitted. The dentist determines which technique he/she will use.

Who can have implants?

Implant treatment is suitable for people with a missing tooth or teeth. Implant is applied to people who require missing teeth treatment. Dental prostheses are fitted with implants. Implant treatment can be applied to patients who completed their oral and dental development and have missing teeth problems. Convenience of the jaw structure is controlled by physical examination and medical scanning techniques before starting the treatment. If there is no problem in the jawbone and in the tissues where the implant will be inserted, the treatment can start immediately. But firstly, the prostheses must be prepared according to the person’s intraoral structure and needs. That’s why, this treatment is a process that will take some time.

In brief, the procedure is not finalized by inserting the screw that is used in implant treatment. The prostheses should be prepared in advance. Implant treatment becomes more difficult as you age because loss of tissue where the implant will be applied is generally not observed in young people. The dentist decides on the patient’s condition by physical examination and the use of medical scanning techniques.

What are the advantages of implant treatment?

Implant treatment is one of the most common ways of treatment in replacing the missing teeth. The dental prostheses used serve as real teeth. After the application, chewing that is the main function of the teeth can be performed as before and bacteria will not grow in the space that is caused by the missing teeth. Bacteria grow with the nutrient leftovers where toothbrush is not used effectively. With the implant treatment we prevent bacteria from growing in those spaces. In addition, implant treatment is a big advantage for an aesthetic oral appearance.

It is true that the most advantageous way of treatment is implant since the lifespan of implant and prostheses is quite long.
